This morning,
my mother came over and said "I love your outfit". And I said, "really?" and she said, "yes. Loose things look good on you. I prefer more clingy and neat."

Well that can just screw up your day! LOL!
My mother's response to my appearing at the breakfast table in the morning in high school was usually, "Soooo, THAT is the outfit for the day, huh?" Perhaps we in fact have the same mother?
LOL - my former mother-in-law to me at a holiday dinner:
"What a beautiful sweater! It's just a shame you couldn't get it in blue, as red really isn't your color ..."
Mothers are special that way.
Oh! Sounds like my mother. "This will fit you... it's huge".
mom needs more xanax in her coffee.
My grandmother once said, "You look great."
"Thank you," I replied.
She counters, "Yes, now that you've gained all that weight, your wrinkles aren't as bad."
