HOW THE HELL. . .

s my daughter with the sprained ankle supposed to put no weight on her foot when you doctors won't give her crutches?  The ER doctor didn't send her home with any -- and I was too relieved that it was just a sprain to think to ask.  Her primary care doc decided to defer to the Orthopaedist -- who I just found out wasn't planning to see her until Tuesday though PC doc wanted her seen last night because of worsening symptoms.  So here we are, hauling an 11 year old up and down stairs and watching her hop on one foot to get to the bathroom, in and out of the dr's offices and hospital.  Idiots.

Updated (and a completely stand alone whine): Orthopaedist had a different take on the original 'clean' x-ray -- immediately saw a fracture in the growth plate. Way to go, ER doctors (as in the plural) who gave an all clear on the x-rays.

So sorry! You can usually rent crutches at most drugstores. Around here they require a deposit and then you get most of your deposit back when you return the crutches. ($25 deposit, got $15 back)

Just a thought. Glad your daughter's ankle isn't broken!

ER's don't had out crutches. Go to Walgreens/Osco, etc. and rent them.

In our state you can't get crutches @ the drugstore. I tried. They can only be obtained from the hospital, from a dr, or from a medical supply co with a script or permission of a dr. Nice little control of the market, yes? Because that way they can be marked up like crazy.

Medical supply stores in bigger cities rent them as well. Hope the sprain heals quickly!
